Let's Stay Together

About this song

Producer Willie Mitchell gave Al Green a first draft of the tune, and Green wrote the lyrics in about fifteen minutes. Green was initially reluctant to record it and did so only after heavy persuasion from Mitchell. Two weeks after release it reached #1 on the R&B charts, the only Al Green song to do so, and it was ranked 60th on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
