About this song
Bassist Tim Commerford originally believed the song was about love and romance. Chris Cornell, who sang and wrote it, later explained his own view of its themes.
What it's about
Commerford describes the song as the story of an elderly man alone in a house after his friends and family have died, waiting to be reunited with them. Cornell said it is about hoping for a fair afterlife, even for those who live good, generous lives.
