About this song
"Sk8er Boi" is a song from Avril Lavigne's debut album Let Go, released on August 27, 2002, when she was 17. It did not perform as strongly commercially as her earlier single "Complicated," but it still peaked at No. 10 on Billboard's Hot 100. In December 2021, Lavigne confirmed a movie based on the song was in the works for the tune's 20th anniversary.
What it's about
The song tells of a skater boy who liked a girl, but she was too concerned with her friends' opinions to admit she liked him back. She later regrets that choice, as he becomes a successful musician while she ends up a single mother living alone.
