Fight For Your Right

About this song

Fight For Your Right is the fourth single and seventh track from Beastie Boys' debut album, Licensed To Ill, and the single was released on 2.22.1987. The song was co-written by the Beastie Boys, Rick Rubin and Tom Cushman, and Kerry King of Slayer played guitar on it. It became a massive crossover hit, and its goofy video, co-directed by Ric Menello and Adam Dubin, received heavy airplay on MTV.

What it's about

The song was written as a satirical jab at party anthems. Although the group played up that image with a knowing wink, the joke was lost on many listeners, and the song became a frat house battle cry.
