About this song
Eyes Without A Face was the second single from the Rebel Yell album and became Billy Idol's first Top Ten hit in the US, reaching number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Guitarist and co-writer Steve Stevens said the chord changes were his take on a classic 1950s doo-wop progression, and the song was among the first three written for the album. Idol has said his improvised rap on the bridge was inspired by the growing rap scene in New York City, where he was living at the time.
What it's about
Idol once described the song as a murder song, but in his 2015 memoir Dancing With Myself he reflects that it mirrors the breakdown of his relationship with girlfriend Perri Lister, strained by his partying, drug use and infidelity.
