billy woods, Kenny Segal
Spongebob is the lead single from billy woods and Kenny Segal's critically acclaimed collaborative album Hiding Places. Its title plays on the Nickelodeon cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants, and the music video shows billy woods walking through a convenience store with his face blurred out.
The song is built on dark, mature imagery, with water references that tie it to the underwater setting of the show. It unravels into the story of a suicide bomber during Operation Desert Storm, touching on PTSD and the promises extremist groups make about religious rewards.
