About this song
"Army of Me" was released on April 21, 1995 as the lead single from Björk's second full-length album, Post (1995). It was written and produced by Björk and Graham Massey, and became a commercial success as the first Björk single to enter the UK Top 10. The music video was another collaboration with Michel Gondry, showing Björk driving an enormous vehicle through a city, fighting a gorilla over a diamond, and planting a bomb in a museum to free a boy.
What it's about
Lyrically, the song was inspired by the damaging behavior of Björk's brother, and it urges him to stand up and regain control of his life. Critics noted its darkness and praised Björk's energy.
