About this song

Teddy Riley was the driving force behind the song, which he cowrote and coproduced with William "Skylz" Stewart after Stewart brought in a sample from Bill Withers' 1971 hit "Grandma's Hands." The lyrics grew out of an unused verse by LL Cool J, intended for a remix of Blackstreet's earlier track "I Like the Way You Work It," and Riley decided to turn that phrase into its own song. The song sold 1.6 million copies in 1996 and won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
