About this song
"Redemption Song" is the final track on Uprising, the ninth and last album by Bob Marley & The Wailers released while Marley was alive. It is a solo acoustic recording with none of the reggae style found in most of Marley's work, and it evokes the sound of Bob Dylan. An alternate version with a full band arrangement was later released as a bonus track on the 2001 reissue of Uprising and on the compilation One Love: The Very Best of Bob Marley & The Wailers. Rolling Stone ranked it #66 on its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
What it's about
Some of the song's key lyrics are drawn from a speech by the Pan-Africanist orator Marcus Garvey.
