Night Moves

About this song

The song marked Bob Seger's move from a local following in Michigan to national rock fame. It was the feature track on the album of the same name, and while the album credits his Silver Bullet Band, the song was recorded in Toronto with different musicians, both Canadian and American. It was named Rolling Stone's song of the year in 1977 and went on to win platinum certification six times.

What it's about

The song is rooted in Seger's high school years, a time of freedom and looseness. It draws on a real romance that took place after high school, involving a woman whose boyfriend returned from military service and whom she then married, which was Seger's first broken heart.
