About this song
"1, 2 Step" was the second single from Ciara's debut album Goodies and was produced and co-written with Jazze Pha. The song reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and features a cameo rap verse from Missy Elliott. Its heavy electro dance sound drew inspiration from early 1980s hip-hop, including Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock", and Elliott's verse closely follows the cadence of a verse from Teena Marie's "Square Biz".
