About this song
"I'll Be" is track four on Edwin McCain's album Misguided Roses and was his most successful song from that album. It peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is frequently played at weddings, though it is not a love song in McCain's view.
What it's about
McCain wrote the song as a kind of Hail Mary prayer during a breakup, and it also reflects his admission that he struggled to function in a relationship. The line "love's suicide" comes from this self-examination.
