About this song
Jeff Lynne wrote the song while secluded in a Swiss chalet, where he was trying to write the follow-up to A New World Record. After two dark, misty weeks produced nothing, the sun came out and he wrote it along with 13 other songs in the following two weeks. It was the second single from the album Out of the Blue and reached number 6 in the UK and number 35 in the US.
What it's about
The song is a celebration of the return of sunshine after a long stretch of gloom. It was inspired by the sudden beauty of the Alps after the weather lifted.
