About this song

The song is the fourth single from Eurythmics' second album and became their biggest hit. Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart wrote it after their romance had ended, while they were still searching for the right sound together. It reached number 2 in the UK in spring 1983 and went to number 1 in the US that summer, helped by its video on MTV. Billboard later ranked it the 10th biggest song of 1983.
