I Love You

About this song

I Love You is the second single from Fontaines D.C.'s third record, Skinty Fia. Frontman Grian Chatten has called it the first overtly political song the band has written. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Chatten described the song as having two spiritual parts, tied to his efforts to connect with and express the culture and country he comes from.

What it's about

The song is written from the perspective of an Irishman abroad who is enjoying great personal success and a sense of cultural pride. It works through deep disappointment and anger at the current political climate and at the country's grimmest historical atrocities, including the brutality at the Tuam Mother and Baby Home in Galway.
