About this song
Fountains of Wayne's most popular song, it was one of the first songs to reach the top spot on the Most Downloaded Songs list of the iTunes Music Store. Bassist and songwriter Adam Schlesinger said it was partly inspired by a real-life remark a friend made about his grandmother. The music video, which features a swimsuit model as Stacy's mom, is also highlighted for its casting and its Fast Times at Ridgemont High ending.
What it's about
The narrator is a pubescent boy who is more interested in his female friend's mom than in the friend herself. The song was written to portray that slice of life from a boy's perspective.
