About this song
Although released under Wham!, the song was George Michael's first solo breakaway single. He wrote it on a bus when he was seventeen. In his 1991 memoir Bare, Michael said he regretted that the song was not an integral part of his emotional development, and he later told People magazine he was fed up with it.
What it's about
The song explores the guilt felt after cheating on a partner, and the singer's inability to dance with that partner in the same way afterward. Michael has said he had no particular connection to the situation it portrays.
