About this song
The song was featured on Gilbert O'Sullivan's 1972 U.S. album Himself, and he wrote and produced it himself. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks in July 1972 and again for two weeks in September 1972. Biz Markie later sampled it for his 1991 song "Alone Again" without permission, and O'Sullivan sued him, leading to a ruling that song samples must be pre-approved by copyright holders.
