What it's about
The song describes a girl who is likened to an angel and seen as too pure for the world. She recalls a time when she and her friends were innocent and honest, but the world has made her cynical and worn down their souls. The chorus's call to tear the petals off means stripping away a pretty exterior to expose the truth underneath.
