About this song
Take Me to Church is the debut single by Irish artist Hozier and became an international hit, reaching number one in 12 countries. Hozier was a struggling musician when he recorded it, and the song only drew attention after its music video, a critique of Russia's anti-LGBT+ policy, went viral. The song was nominated for a Grammy for Song of the Year in 2015 and has been covered on The Voice and featured in an interpretive dance video by David LaChapelle.
What it's about
Hozier has said the song is essentially about sex, and that it is about asserting yourself and reclaiming your humanity through an act of love. He has also said it is not an attack on faith.
