It Was A Good Day

About this song

In 2012, a blogger calculated the exact date of the day Ice Cube describes in the song as January 20, 1992, which led to an internet campaign to put his name on a Goodyear blimp. The campaign succeeded, and on January 20, 2014, the blimp flew over South Central, raising $25,000 for charity. The song peaked at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100, topped the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and was featured prominently in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Its sample from The Isley Brothers' "Footsteps in the Dark" has become closely associated with it.

What it's about

Ice Cube describes his idea of an ideal day, mixing miraculous events like constant wins at craps with ordinary wishes like not needing to use his AK. The contrast paints a picture of his everyday life, where murder and police intervention are routine.
