Green Light

About this song

"Green Light" was released as the lead single from John Legend's third studio album, Evolver, and it moved away from his usual soulful piano ballads toward an electro-funk sound. Legend said the song mixes a modern feel with an old-school Hollywood style, drawing on a big-band quality and a modern dance-song quality. André 3000 of OutKast contributed a verse, and Legend said the tempo and feel suited André's style. The song reached #4 on Billboard's US Dance Club Songs chart, #6 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and #24 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it achieved double platinum status.

What it's about

According to Legend, the song is about trying to pick up a girl at a club and convince her to come have some fun. The video follows that same storyline.
