About this song
Sergio Pizzorno wrote the song, and it is the 11th track on the album West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum. It was released on 1 June 2009 as the album's first single, peaking at number three in the UK charts, Kasabian's highest-charting single so far. Pizzorno explained that it was built from two separate pieces of music, one written on acoustic guitar and the other on synth, and that the song sounds like two bands elbowing each other off the stage.
What it's about
The song portrays a person who lives on the edge and follows his instincts without holding back. He can be sweet and easygoing one moment and rebellious the next, indifferent to how others see him. The fire imagery reflects his unstable, uncontrollable nature.
