About this song
The song is the lead single from Keane's debut album Hopes and Fears. Co-writer Tim Rice-Oxley has said it has become a phenomenon in its own right, showing up often in films and big syncs. Lily Allen's cover later made it popular as a Christmas song, and it has also caught on widely on TikTok and other social media.
What it's about
The song is about drawing strength from a place or experience shared with someone. Rice-Oxley has said he thinks many people can relate to that idea.
