About this song
The song appears on Keith Urban's ninth album, Ripcord, released in 2016, which the text describes as experimental. Urban said he wanted to avoid a typical sound for a waltz, so he used a drum machine and combined electronic drums with organic Telecaster guitar. He cited the minimalist country records of Don Williams as an inspiration, which he had learned about through his late father, Bob Urban, who died while the album was being made.
What it's about
The song pairs sad, heartbroken lyrics with a waltz beat and includes drinking, a familiar country theme.
