I Got 5 On It

About this song

The debut single from Luniz was produced by Tone Capone, who built it around a sample of Club Nouveau's 1986 hit "Why You Treat Me So Bad." A claim was made that the sampled riff actually came from Timex Social Club's 1986 song "Thinkin' About Ya," and Michael Marshall sang lead on both Timex Social Club songs and sings the chorus here. The song took off internationally, reaching #1 in the Netherlands and peaking at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, and its remix featuring Bay Area rappers helped its success.

What it's about

The song is about pooling money together to buy a large amount of weed. Yukmouth credits Numskull with devising the concept.
