About this song
The song is musically heavier than most of the tracks on Salad Days. Its synth part is borrowed from Japanese artist Shigeo Sekito's 1975 song "The World II", and Mac DeMarco's version was later sampled by Wiz Khalifa in "Smoke Chambers" and by Mr. Waves in "Smooth Departure". The music video includes a masonic compass and square with a G, and DeMarco had earlier used masonic symbols on the cover of his first band Makeout Videotape's album Ying Yang.
What it's about
The song draws on the Chamber of Reflection from Masonic culture and on DeMarco's uneasy relationship with fame, a theme he also explored in his "Macumentary" Pepperoni Playboy.
