About this song
"I'm Goin' Down" was the second single from Mary J. Blige's 1994 album My Life, and it is a cover of a Rose Royce ballad from the soundtrack of the 1976 movie Car Wash. The group Y?N-Vee released its own video for the Rose Royce song a day before Blige's version reached radio and TV on January 18, 1995. Blige's version climbed to #13 on the R&B charts, while the group's version stalled at #57. The music video, directed by Matthew Rolston, was shot in black and white and shows many copies of Blige in a black pantsuit walking down a white staircase.
