About this song
Close To You was the first single from Maxi Priest's album Bonafide, released after he had already made three full-length albums. It was one of only two British reggae songs to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100, where it held the top spot for a week in October 1990. In the U.K. it was less successful, peaking at number 7 on the Singles chart. Its sound leans closer to pop and R&B than much of his reggae fusion work.
