About this song
"The World is Yours" was the third single from Illmatic. Pete Rock produced the jazzy boom bap beat, built on a piano sample from Ahmad Jamal's "I Love Music" and a vocal sample from T La Rock's "It's Yours." Fellow Queens native Q-Tip made a remix of the track, and its chorus sample was later used in JAY-Z's 1996 single "Dead Presidents."
What it's about
The title is partly inspired by a scene from the movie Scarface, which is also referenced in the music video.
