Because Of You

About this song

Released in 2007, the song was the first single from Ne-Yo's second album of the same name. It started radio play in early February 2007 and debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 84 in March before reaching number 2 on that chart. It also peaked at number 4 in the UK and became his second most successful song in the U.S., after his 2006 number one hit "So Sick". Its beat, built on muted harpsichord and guitar with a bass and clap groove, gave listeners the impression it was a remix, and the same style later influenced Ne-Yo's "Closer" and Jay Sean's "Maybe".
