About this song
Nickelback's breakout single hit number one on the Hot 100 for four weeks and was the top song of 2002 after 22 weeks in the Top 10. It appeared on Silver Side Up, the band's third album.
What it's about
In an interview with MTV, lead singer Chad Kroeger said the song was about his former girlfriend Jodi, with whom he had a dysfunctional relationship. The lyrics are deliberately ambiguous, which many listeners found relatable as a story of an ex who turns on you and causes heartbreak.
