About this song
Gwen Stefani wrote the song with her brother and bandmate Eric Stefani. An earlier version was a love song written by Eric and Gwen about her relationship with Tony Kanal, and the lyrics were rewritten after Kanal ended their seven-year relationship in 1994. Eric later left the band during work on Tragic Kingdom over creative control disputes, and Gwen rewrote the lyrics for the final version. The band made the music video as a form of therapy, even though they were nearly breaking up the day before filming.
What it's about
The song details the break-up between Gwen Stefani and bandmate Tony Kanal, who met in high school and dated for seven years.
