About this song
The song's looping guitar riff and background female vocals recall the band's 1988 track "Where Is My Mind" from Surfer Rosa, a nod to Kim Deal's central role in the band, whose vocals on that track are among the Pixies' most famous. The lyrics are unusually straightforward for the band, given Black Francis's fondness for abstraction.
What it's about
Written from Black Francis's point of view, the song works as an apology and a thank you to Kim Deal for her time in the band and the events that led to her leaving in 2013. It laments the way his relationship with her turned out.
