About this song
"I Disagree" is the second single and title track from Poppy's third album of the same name. The song was first performed live at the 2019 Pukkelpop Festival in August, and the following day at a headlining concert in London. It came as Poppy was gradually stepping away from her robotic persona, which she had kept up in interviews and public appearances until mid-2019.
What it's about
The song's title and its use as the album title are read as significant within Poppy's persona, with the idea that a robot would not normally refuse what it is told. The accompanying violent music video, in which Poppy appears to rebel against record executives, is taken to suggest she has gained full sentience.
