About this song
"Black Hole Sun" is the seventh track and third single from Soundgarden's 1994 album Superunknown. It became one of the band's biggest hits, reaching number one on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and number two on the Modern Rock chart.
What it's about
Chris Cornell said he wrote the lyrics quickly and intuitively, playing with words and painting a surreal picture to fit the music rather than conveying a specific message. He also described the song as sad, even though its pretty melody led many listeners to hear it as upbeat.
