About this song
Gerry Rafferty wrote the song after the band attended a signing party at a London restaurant, which he likened to the Last Supper, with everyone hanging on the words of the record label's chief executive. Musically, it has a strong guitar groove and echoes early 1970s Bob Dylan songs. It was a hit in 1972, peaking at number 6 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and regained popularity in 1992 after being featured in the film Reservoir Dogs.
