System Of A Down
Aerials was released in June 2002 as the third single from System of a Down's second album Toxicity, which came out in September 2001. The song was critically and commercially successful and was nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance at the 2003 Grammy Awards.
The song centers on the mistaken belief that we are separate and isolated individuals, when in fact we are a small part of something greater that we come from at birth and return to at death. It treats death not as an ending but as another step in existence, with the body passing into worms, the air, and the soil and plants.
