About this song
Brian Wilson said the title came from a childhood idea that dogs could pick up vibrations from people, and he later recounted this in his 1995 biopic I Just Wasn't Made for These Times. The song stood out for its unusual structure, with many new sections that were not obviously connected musically to earlier parts. It also featured instruments new to this style of music, most notably an Electro-Theremin, and it greatly influenced the Beatles and their album Sgt. Pepper.
What it's about
The song takes the idea of vibrations, both good and bad, and extends it to the way people can sense and affect one another's emotions.
