My Sharona

About this song

The first single by the Knack, it topped the US pop chart in 1979 and was declared song of the year, reaching the top 20 in several countries overseas, including number six in the UK. The song was inspired by a 17-year-old girl, Sharona Alperin, whom frontman Doug Fieger met at a clothing store; she became his lover and then girlfriend, though they never married. The band's debut album Get the Knack pre-sold over a million copies before release thanks to the single's success, and two more songs on the album were also inspired by Sharona.

What it's about

The song is about the singer's infatuation with a young woman named Sharona, told with a catchy bass riff and a famous stutter that introduces her name.
