Schism

About this song

The song came after Tool faced legal issues with record labels and as frontman Maynard James Keenan's other band, A Perfect Circle, started demanding much more of his time. It is on the album Lateralus, and on the album it is introduced by the interlude "Mantra", which is also included in the music video.

What it's about

The song uses a jigsaw puzzle as a metaphor for a relationship where the two sides disagree and communication breaks down. It also serves as a message to fans and the band that they can still fit together and create great work despite hardships.
