About this song
Darrell Scott originally wrote the song, and Travis Tritt made it popular with a version released in December 2000. Tritt recorded it as the fourth track on his 2000 album Down the Road I Go, and it was released as the album's second single. It peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart and at number 33 on the Billboard Hot 100.
What it's about
The song was inspired by Scott's experience of injuring his back and being confined to lying down for a week. When he could finally sit up and make food for himself, he realized how much of a blessing even simple everyday things are.
