About this song
"Lovers Rock" is the ninth track on TV Girl's album French Exit. The song is named after Lovers Rock, a reggae sub-genre that was common in the 1970s and 1980s and noted for its romantic sound and content. It samples dialogue from a 1944 radio show, Dangerously Yours, starring Victor Jory and Gertrude Warner.
What it's about
The song takes its romantic theme from the Lovers Rock style. The sampled radio episode, "The Pirate of Orleans," follows pirate Jean Lafitte, who begins a romance with a woman he meets in Louisiana.
