The Peace

About this song

The Peace is the fourth track on underscores' third studio album U. Its title refers to a Japanese cigarette brand called Peace. The intro and the rest of the song feature a vocal chop of the line "Mm, baby, can we talk?", which was later confirmed in the first part of the album's production breakdown video on April's YouTube channel.

What it's about

The song is about changing yourself just to keep someone in your life, even when it may hurt both people. The narrator keeps falling into the same pattern of mirroring the other person, staying quiet and going along with things to avoid losing them, and admits she still wants them around even when she sees it may be making things worse.
