The song's most distinctive feature is its driving bass line, which runs through nearly all of it. It ends with a siren-like noise that turns into a saxophone solo, a passage that later inspired the sample driving Flo Rida's "GDFR (Goin' Down For Real)". The song was also shaped by the gas crisis the United States faced in the late 1970s.
The song is a tribute to the Chicano practice of hydraulically hot-rodding classic cars, extending that image into a whole lifestyle.
