Murder on My Mind

About this song

Melly wrote the song in 2017 while he was locked up for a year after being charged with aggravated assault and discharging a firearm in public, and he told HotNewHipHop that the inmates and staff enjoyed it, which convinced him it would be a hit. After its SoundCloud release, the track's lyrics reportedly violated his probation on a prior charge, sending him back to prison. The official music video, directed by Gabriel Hart, followed over a year later, and a sequel titled Mind on My Murder later told the story from the victim's perspective.

What it's about

The song depicts a dark, fictional story in which Melly shoots a close friend and holds him as he slowly loses consciousness and dies. It also references his earlier jail time on gun and drug charges.
