About this song
Black midi's breakthrough single, the song's title is pronounced "boom boom boom" and refers to the thudding guitar throughout. Live versions sample Nikki Grahame from the seventh series of the UK edition of Big Brother, which aired in 2006, while the album version replaces that sample with a female vocalist in incoherent rage. The song was dropped from the band's setlist for about two years, from the end of 2019, before returning at the end of their Columbus Theatre show in Providence on March 30, 2022.
What it's about
Lead vocalist Geordie Greep endlessly repeats praise for a woman who "moves with a purpose" without ever saying what that purpose is. His sarcastic, maniacal delivery contrasts her with others he sees as self-serving.
