About this song
"Doomed" was the first track written for the album and also the last one finished, and it was always meant to open the record. Jordan Fish said it was originally called "What a State" before the track changed and the title changed with it, and his voice can still be heard quietly between the verses. The song samples sounds from the drug scenes in the 2000 film Requiem for a Dream.
What it's about
The song expresses a mood of doom, to the point of feeling like a corpse, before the narrator accepts an inescapable depression and mockingly embraces it to cope. Oli has said it is about celebrating the darkness rather than hiding it away.
