About this song
Perfect is the fourth single from Ed Sheeran's 2017 album ÷. Sheeran said he wrote it to beat the reputation of Thinking Out Loud, which he feared would define his career. The song later got a duet version with Beyoncé and a version with Andrea Bocelli, and it reached number one on Billboard's Hot 100 in December 2017.
What it's about
Perfect is an old-fashioned love ballad dedicated to Sheeran's then-fiancée, Cherry Seaborn, who is now his wife. Thematically it is reminiscent of 18, a song he wrote for his One Direction friends.
