The Chain

About this song

The Chain is one of Fleetwood Mac's best-known songs. It was written at a time when the band members were not on speaking terms because of breakups and rifts in their relationships. In 2017, about 40 years after its release, it was used in the films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and I, Tonya.

What it's about

The song is described as a bond that keeps a relationship going and never ends, and also as the chain that links the band members together so they cannot truly part ways. Its lyrics are often said to be attacks on each other, but there is also an underlying love that keeps them from splitting completely.
